Visit the Bibémus quarries with a stone carving demonstration
Presentation
Guided visit (2h30) - During the first part of the tour, Élodie, your tour guide, will take you through this picturesque site and explain the methods used to extract this yellow-ochre limestone, known as 'Bibémus stone', which was used to build the city of Aix-en-Provence from ancient times until the 19th century. We will descend into the canyon to understand the work of the quarryman, with photos to illustrate.
Next, you will meet sculptor and stonemason David Campbell, who will offer you an introduction to stone cutting with a demonstration on site. He will talk to you about the traditional techniques of the trade. You will then have the opportunity to practise and try your hand at stone cutting, tools in hand. This tour specialises in architecture and stone cutting.
