The Bibémus quarries of Paul Cezanne
Presentation
Enter a landscape where history and art meet: the Bibémus quarries, whose ochre-yellow limestone was used to build the city of Aix-en-Provence. This site inspired Paul Cezanne so much that he set up his easel there to immortalise his muse: the Sainte-Victoire mountain.
The quarries are nestled in the heart of the Concors-Sainte-Victoire Grand Site, in the middle of fragrant scrubland. Follow your guide down into the canyon, where the marks on the rocks suggest that it was mined for centuries. The tour then continues to the south-facing viewpoint with a view of the Provençal mountains and hills.
Finally, you will pass by Cezanne's cabin facing Sainte-Victoire and finish with an analysis of reproductions of his paintings, scattered throughout the pine forest where the artist painted on location, inviting you to experience the magic of the landscape.
A unique experience for lovers of nature and art.
