Cezanne hike & stonecutting practice in the Bibemus quarry
Presentation
Hike from Le Tholonet village (3h) - Elodie, tour guide and Paul Cezanne specialist, will take you on a hike in Aix-en-Provence pinetree forest and countryside, introducing you to its natural heritage. We'll visit the Bibemus quarries to discover the ocre-yellow stone which was used to build the city of Aix-en-Provence from Antique times to the 19th century. We'll descend into the canyon to understand the work of the stone cutters and carvers, with photos to illustrate the speech.
Then, we'll visit the open-air workshop of professional stonemason and sculptor David Campbell, who will explain traditional stonecutting techniques, with the opportunity to practice stoncytting using proper tools.
