A landmark cultural institution in Aix-en-Provence, Musée Granet, in partnership with Tate, is hosting a 700-square-metre retrospective exhibition of works by leading British artist David Hockney.
Who doesn't know David Hockney?! He is one of the most famous contemporary artists in the world. This British artist, born in Bradford in 1937, has brought to art his singular vision, benefiting from an important recognition from his youngest age.
The fabulous collection of the Tate of London, lent for the occasion to the Granet Museum, offers us to (re)discover in more than 110 works (paintings, prints, photographic collages, drawings, digital works), the journey of the artist from his years of apprenticeship, through his series of pools known worldwide, to his latest digital creations that make his current fame.
It will also be an opportunity to better understand his fascination for the great masters such as Picasso, Matisse, Van Gogh or Cezanne, from whom he drew inspiration to create works that can be seen exceptionally in the exhibition.
